... an inspiring space where families, schools, and learners of all ages can engage in high-quality, interactive hands-on experiences. Imagine creating art and music using real-time internet data, constructing an outpost on the moon, investigating earth’s habitats by land, air, and sea, and harnessing the power of the human brain — all in one day. Welcome to the Future Science Center!
Great science centers are reflections of their communities, both as they exist and of their aspirations for the future. The design for the future science center reflects those hopes, dreams, and ambitions and is being created based on input from hundreds of citizens of Northern Virginia, over 40 years of experience from the Science Museum of Virginia, and professional expertise provided by award-winning architecture and exhibit design firms. |

Northern Virginia Science Center Foundation (dba Children’s Science Center) has established a decade-long track record of providing quality, hands-on STEM learning experiences for children, families, and schools. In traditional years, interactive exhibits and programs serve more than 75,000 visitors at the Lab in Fairfax, Virginia and at community programs in every Northern Virginia jurisdiction. In response to COVID-19, a pivot to virtual programming has enhanced experience and expertise with interactive digital technologies and has expanded reach beyond the region.
Since inception, it has been our vision to build a world-class science center that our region’s citizens need, deserve, and crave. Starting as a museum without walls and then opening the Lab, we secured donated land, created a museum concept plan, and developed a public-private partnership between state and local governments and private philanthropy. Today, architecture and design teams are more than halfway through the design process, and thanks to the contributions of our Campaign Partners 90% of campaign funds have been committed. The vision is now. |
